EASTWAY
A youth centre for the Young Hackney including internal and external activity/hangout spaces, storage facilities and a multi-use games area were placed on a previously derelict football field in Hackney Wick.
Since a shortfall in the provision of spaces for young people had been identified in the local are; the design was envisioned through close collaboration with the client Young Hackney and the local young people that would ultimately use the building.
Working as the project architect at muf architecture/art llp, we were able to bring their aspirations onto the constrained site and budget; carving a sequence of spaces for playing, exercising and socialising. Upon returning to the site post completion it is great see that these various activities play out simultaneously.
